Seats and billing
Learn how Servor seat billing works — adding members changes your subscription, the payer is emailed, and viewers and roles affect what you pay.
Servor bills your team per seat, so the number of people on your team directly affects what you pay. This page explains what a seat is, when your bill changes, and who gets notified — so there are no surprises when you invite a teammate.
What a seat is
A seat is a paid spot on your team. When you add someone to a paid role, they take a seat, and your subscription reflects the new total. Your plan sets the price per seat; the number of seats is simply how many people you've added.
Viewers and read-only access
Roles determine what people can do. If you only need someone to watch — see monitors, status pages, command history and incidents — invite them as a viewer, the read-only role, rather than a working role.
When your bill changes
Your seat count — and therefore your bill — changes whenever team membership does:
- You invite someone to a paid role → seats go up, subscription updated.
- You promote a viewer to a working role → seats may go up.
- You remove someone or drop them to a read-only role → seats may go down.
Changes are applied to your subscription automatically. Your Stripe billing (managed entirely inside Servor at Settings → Billing) reflects the new seat count on the next charge. Open billing in Servor
The payer is always emailed
Whenever seats change, Servor emails the payer — normally the owner — so the person responsible for the bill always knows when it moves. Adding people mid-cycle updates the subscription right away.
Who pays
Billing lives with the team owner. Only owners and admins can reach Settings → Billing to see the subscription, seat count and invoices. If billing should belong to someone else, transfer ownership so the plan and payment method move with the role.
Keep your bill tidy
- Right-size roles. People who only need to look shouldn't hold a working seat — make them viewers.
- Remove people who've left. Removing a member frees their seat. Don't forget to revoke any API tokens they created, since tokens are separate from seats.
- Review before big invites. On a paid plan, adding several people at once moves the bill — glance at Settings → Billing first.
Frequently asked
Do viewers cost a seat?
Viewers are read-only. Because they don't operate infrastructure, keep them on the read-only role rather than a working role when you only need them to watch — your exact seat pricing is shown in Settings → Billing.
Why did I get a billing email?
Because your seat count changed — someone was invited, promoted, or removed. Servor always emails the payer when the subscription moves.
How do I change my plan, not just seats?
Seats scale within a plan; the plan itself (Free, Operations, AI, Enterprise) is a separate choice. See Plans and limits and Cancel or change plan.
